What does that mean?
Its so much more than a textbook definition.
Its a feeling.
Its warmth.
Its our whole community, coming together to make sure every child has the resources they need to flourish.
Karmin and Renee, two parents of the children in our community, weigh in on what equitable access has meant for their family.
Karmin, now also one of the members of our staff, is mother to little Everly. She emphasizes the importance of the type of care, consistency, and teaching the children skills like emotional regulation.
“Its been a great opportunity for her, just to be in this environment.” she said. “They offer a really good, positive environment for the kids.”
Karmin noted one of the biggest benefits of sending her kids here is the social skills, and emotional regulation, that her kids have been taught by the teachers here.
“It’s something they do really well here,” Karmin said. “I’ve seen it first hand, because I’m working here now.”
Karmin said since she’s started working here, too, and started to see how things work on the inside, she’s become an even bigger supporter of NEYC than before.
She said she loves our commitment to our community, and that we offer resources to the parents, and not just their kids.
“I also love that they provide resources for the parents in the community,” She said. “If they need extra support… they’re always willing to reach out a hand and help”.
For Renee, it means “just knowing they have a safe place to go”
Renee’s two kids, Maddox and Kira, are students here. The thing she values the most about the program is the sense of stable community, and genuine care her kids get here.
“Its just knowing they have a safe, stable place to go” said Renee. She says she can relax knowing that her kids can be somewhere with “authentic community” before and after school.
All our teachers provide a personal touch, personalizing the care kids in their classrooms recieve based on what the kid needs. They stay aware of what’s going on in their lives, so they can be ready with extra support when the kids need it most.
“Their teachers really care about them,” said Renee. “This is like the best place” She added. “everything here is like, community based.”
