Position Overview
Northeast Youth Center offers high‑quality early learning services for preschool‑aged children enrolled in the Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP). The Assistant Teacher works closely with the Lead Teacher to implement developmentally appropriate curriculum, ensure a safe and inclusive classroom environment, and promote positive child outcomes in alignment with ECEAP Performance Standards and state licensing requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive curriculum
- Assist with daily classroom activities that promote learning across all developmental domains
- Provide active supervision and positive guidance to ensure child safety and well‑being
- Support child observations, documentation, and preparation of assessment materials
- Assist with routines including meals, hygiene, transitions, and rest time
- Build positive, respectful relationships with families and participate in family engagement activities
- Collaborate with classroom staff and interdisciplinary team members
- Maintain compliance with ECEAP Performance Standards, licensing regulations, and organizational policies
- Participate in required trainings, staff meetings, and professional development
- Support classroom cleanliness, sanitation, and health and safety procedures
Minimum Qualifications
- Early Childhood Education coursework meeting ECEAP Assistant Teacher requirements (e.g., Initial ECE Certificate, equivalent credits, or willingness to complete required coursework within timelines)
- Experience working with young children in an early learning or childcare setting
- Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practice
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow program policies
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field
- Experience in ECEAP, Head Start, or other state‑funded preschool programs
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities
- Familiarity with Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies GOLD, or similar early learning systems
Work Environment
This position operates in an early learning classroom setting and requires active engagement with children, families, and staff. Duties may involve lifting up to 40 pounds, sitting on the floor, and participating in classroom activities.
